About me

A psychologist who believes in the transforming power of listening

Dedicated to genuine listening, cultural understanding, and the transforming power of self-discovery.

Flávia Bastian, clinical psychologist

Hello, I'm Flávia Bastian

Since I was young, I was always the person others came to talk to. I was genuinely curious about people's inner lives — why we do what we do, why we feel what we feel, and how we transform over time. That curiosity led me to psychology.

Throughout my clinical work, I've had the privilege of walking alongside people through difficult moments: losses, transitions, identity crises, anxiety, depression, and burnout. What I've learned is that each person carries a unique wisdom within them — my role is to create the space for that to emerge.

My decision to work internationally came from a genuine fascination with how culture shapes the way we think, feel, and relate. Pursuing my master's degree at ISPA in Lisbon deepened my understanding of cross-cultural psychology and the profound ways in which cultural experience shapes our inner world. Thus, I have also lived abroad in Canada, Spain and Argentina.

My mission is simple: to be a safe space where you can look at yourself without fear, understand yourself without judgment, and move toward a life that truly makes sense to you.

How I work

My work is grounded in psychoanalytic theory — a framework that invites us to explore the deeper layers of what drives us: desires, fears, and patterns that often operate outside conscious awareness.

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis listens closely to what lies beneath words — the patterns that repeat, the emotions that get stuck, the conflicts that surface in ways we can't always name. It's an attentive listening to what you say, and to what you may not yet be able to say.

My way of working

I'm a young therapist with a warm, approachable style. I enjoy asking questions and gently guiding reflection. Sessions feel like a real conversation — with genuine exchange and no unnecessary formality. You can be exactly who you are here.

What guides my practice

Warmth

You're welcomed as you are — with your story, your pain, and your contradictions. There's no room for judgment here, only genuine listening.

Active listening

I listen with full presence and real attention. Every detail of your story matters.

Non-judgment

There's no right or wrong. You can be who you are — with your contradictions, fears, and imperfections.

Confidentiality

Everything shared stays between us. Confidentiality is an ethical pillar of my practice.

Partnership

I don't do therapy for you — I do it with you. We're partners in this journey of discovery and growth.

Lightness

Looking at what hurts can be profound without having to feel heavy. I enjoy guiding sessions with natural ease, humor when it fits, and room to breathe — because self-knowledge also lives in lighter conversations.

Working with Flávia has been one of the most enriching and grounding experiences in my life. What makes it especially meaningful is not just her professional skill, but the breadth of perspective she brings into every session.

Having therapy online already offers a level of accessibility and consistency that fits beautifully into a modern, dynamic lifestyle. But beyond that, what truly sets her apart is her multicultural understanding of the world. She is bilingual and this creates a unique sense of comfort and flexibility; being able to express myself in different languages allows me to access different layers of my thoughts and emotions.

Her experience living abroad and engaging with diverse cultures adds an incredible depth to her work. She doesn't approach life from a single, fixed point of view. Instead, she understands what it means to navigate different countries, identities, and ways of thinking. For someone like me, who resonates with the idea of being a "citizen of the world," this makes all the difference. There's a sense of being truly seen and understood, without needing to explain or justify the complexity of that experience.

Therapy with her feels expansive. It's not limited to one cultural framework or a rigid interpretation of life. It opens space for multiple perspectives, helping me grow not only emotionally, but also in how I understand myself in relation to the world.

I genuinely believe that having a therapist with such diverse references is a powerful advantage. It creates a richer, more nuanced process, where personal development is supported by a broader vision of life. For anyone who values depth, cultural awareness, and a more global perspective, this kind of therapeutic support is truly inestimable.
